Greek School Ministry

The Greek School Ministry at St. John the Divine offers adults and children the opportunity to learn and strengthen their knowledge of the modern Greek language in a faith-centered, and enjoyable environment. Through reading, writing, speaking, and conversation, students develop practical language skills while deepening their connection to our Greek Orthodox faith, culture, and heritage.

Whether your goal is to reconnect with the language of your Papou and Yiayia, prepare for a trip to Greece, learn the Lord’s Prayer in Greek, better understand hymns such as Agios O Theos during worship services, or simply explore a new language, Greek School provides a meaningful and rewarding experience for learners of all backgrounds. In addition to language, students are introduced to Greek history, culture, traditions, songs, and customs that have shaped generations of Greek families. Lessons often include activities that make learning both engaging and fun while helping students appreciate the richness of Greek heritage and its connection to the Orthodox Christian faith.

Our goal is not only to teach the language, but also to help preserve and celebrate the traditions that have been passed down through generations and to share them with future generations.

Classes are offered for adults and children, with placement based on language proficiency. Whether you are learning Greek for the first time or continuing your studies, we welcome you to join our growing Greek School community.

Registration is required for all students. Enrollment for Fall classes will be open from August 1 through August 31. To ensure proper class placement and preparation of class materials, please register during this period.
